Judge Lina Hidalgo urges Houstonians to do their part as COVID-19 deaths surpass 30,000 in Texas

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is pleading with Houstonians to do their part in helping curb climbing coronavirus numbers following more than 30,000 deaths in Texas.

In a video posted her to Twitter account Tuesday, Hidalgo urges Houstonians to take personal responsibility, remaining disciplined in the fight against coronavirus.

The message comes as the state surpassed more than 30,000 virus-related deaths.

In addition to the tragic milestone, Hidalgo says the 14-day average of cases in Harris County has crossed 2,000 per day and the current positivity rate is over 17-percent.

Despite the discouraging increase in coronavirus numbers and limited vaccine supply, Hidalgo says the community can still take action in order to make a difference .

“I’m asking the community to keep focused on where we really can make a difference,” Hidalgo said. “That is right now: avoiding gatherings, getting tested, and staying home to the extent possible.”
