Microsoft, Nvidia and Meta to participate in an event to oversee Metaverse

Sony, Microsoft, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Epic Games, and of course Meta, these companies will be present at the Metaverse Standards Forum to discuss solutions for regulating Metaverse. The metaverse is known to be the current trend, but there is no or no agency that regulates the guidelines for this novelty.

Announced on Tuesday (21) this week, the Metaverse Standards Forum will be held in July and will be attended by major companies, with a focus on greater collaboration in creating the standards interoperability needed to open up Metaverse.

In this way, the event will address the lack of interoperability between companies that delays the emergence of a metaverse that is open to everyone. Who will host the Metaverse Standards Forum is a group composed of standard development organizations (SDOs – Standard Development Organizations) in the fields of software, web, cloud computing, etc.

Regulating Metaverse
An organization that develops standards for various technical fields.

The event will be hosted by the Khronos Group, a non-profit consortium of more than 170 member companies that creates and manages standards for virtual and augmented reality, as well as machine learning and other categories of interoperability.

Due to the combination of multiple technologies, it is necessary to regulate Metaverse

Neil Trevett, president of the Khronos Group, said regulation of the metaverse is necessary, given that the emergence of virtual environments will combine many technologies. So, according to Trevett, it requires “a set of interoperability standards created and maintained by many SDOs.”

As such, the event will also discuss how to accelerate the work of these organizations to define and evolve the standards needed for the Metaverse with the aforementioned companies such as Microsoft, NVIDIA, Sony, and Meta.

Regulating Metaverse

“As such, the purpose of the Metaverse Standards Forum is to facilitate collaboration based on consensus decisions among the various SDOs and companies to define and align the requirements and priorities of the Metaverse Standards.”

By the way, these companies are some of the founding members of the event, but this does not mean that in a project it is only available to the giants. According to the organization’s website, any company can attend the event for free.

That’s because in addition to developing “consistent” terms and norms to regulate virtual worlds, the purpose is to discuss projects that are still in their infancy, as well as engage in interactive activities.

“Forum events will be developed according to the needs and interests of its members, and thus may involve different technical areas such as 3D rendering, virtual and augmented reality, user-created content, avatars, identity managers, privacy and financial transactions”.

In addition to Microsoft, Nvidia, Sony and Meta, there are also members from various industries, such as IKEA.
