Nicki Minaj may have only recently given birth to her first child back in September, but that exciting life update doesn’t appear to be slowing her down at all. In fact, this week, the hip-hop star pushes ahead of one of the most successful women in music of all time, claiming a highly-coveted title once again.
Minaj returns to the Hot 100 this frame alongside Mike Will Made It and YoungBoy Never Broke Again on the new cut “What That Speed Bout!?,” fronted by super producer and songwriter Mike Will Made It. The tune opens at No. 35 on the inclusive tally, giving all involved one more placement on the important list. Anytime a musician reaches the Hot 100, it’s always reason to celebrate, but this latest smash is especially notable for Minaj.
With “What That Speed Bout!?,” Minaj ups her career total to 114 Hot 100 hits, which is enough to make her the woman with the most placements of all time. This is a title the rapper has earned before, but it was taken away from her by Taylor Swift, who adds to her growing sum considerably anytime she has a new full-length to deliver. Last frame, Swift and Minaj were tied with one another, as they had each sent 113 tunes to the tally. Now, Minaj has pulled ahead once again, and this time it may stick.
Both Minaj and Swift have seen their Hot 100 numbers increase in 2020, as the two women have been busy. Swift wins the year when it comes to sending the most tracks to the chart, as she has pushed at least 15 different songs to the ranking, while Minaj needs one more to crack double-digit wins this calendar year. While she may not have scored as many new placements, the rapper of the two did land a pair of No. 1 smashes (her first), while Swift only collected one.
Swift isn’t expected to release any new music in the foreseeable future (though now that she’s delivered one surprise full-length, there’s no telling what could be coming next from the country-pop star), so it’s safe to assume her 113 Hot 100 hits probably won’t increase much in the next few months. Minaj, on the other hand, is always contributing vocals to songs fronted by other acts, and they often reach the Hot 100, so she may continue her surge forward at any point. She is also reportedly working on an album, which could materialize in 2021, and it will certainly spin off quite a few popular tracks.
