Overwatch 2 will put loot boxes aside and use the battle pass

Blizzard has released more information about Overwatch 2, and one of the highlights is that it won’t use loot boxes. In its place is the Battle Pass and a new in-game store that is constantly being updated.

It also shared plans for content available in the game once it enters Early Access. Also, there is something to be said about the new playable character “Queen Junker”, and beta registration is now available on the official website.

Overwatch 2 launches October 4 on PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC (Battle.net).

Free online experience

Making Overwatch 2 free to play was a natural step for our game and our players. Overwatch has been a social game since its launch, and our community always has a good time when it comes together. The new mode breaks down all barriers to entry, so anyone, anywhere, can dive into the game, chat with friends, or find someone to play with. In addition to this change, we will be adding Shared Progress, allowing everyone to play, progress and access all unlocked content on all platforms.

There will be no loot boxes in Overwatch 2. Instead, we’ve updated the service to give players more freedom to create their own experience. Players will be able to buy any item they want directly through the Battle Pass and the new in-game store that is constantly being updated. Our team will create seasonal content every nine weeks to always bring amazing news to everyone.

Programs and Seasons

In the plans below, you can see our short-term plans for Seasons 1 and 2, as well as our long-term goals for growing and developing the game in 2023 and beyond. Players will encounter a new hero every two seasons, with elements such as new maps and game modes.

Season 1 will feature Sojourn, Queen Junker, and an undisclosed support hero, as well as a new 5v5 PvP experience, improved heroes, new maps and modes, and more. We’re also releasing an improved competitive experience, giving players more tools to improve their game and provide a sense of progression in competitive play. With the shift to 5v5, players will have more impact in individual matches, and we’ll have more systems to help them track their contributions per match. We’ll bring you more details on the competitive overhaul soon!

Season 2 will include a new tank character, a map, and a range of unique skins. We’ll also launch a PvE experience in 2023, along with more heroes, maps, and game modes to advance the story. We can’t wait to show off more of what’s coming soon!

Evolving live game

We’ve always believed that Overwatch should be a living game at its core. Overwatch was made with inclusivity, acceptance and community in mind. These pillars guide us to change our strategy and deliver new heroes, maps and modes frequently because we believe this is in the best interest of the player and the game.

Let’s bring this game to more people and expand the world of Overwatch like never before!
